Frankl & Thomas Inc., Greenville, recently acquired certain assets of Greenville-based Hurley & Harrison. As a result, Frankl & Thomas has added several product lines including Lamiflex composite tapes; Te Strake air-jet relay nozzles and feeders, as well as other IRO/Te Strake air-jet system components; and Bobotex roll coverings. The company also is the master textile industry distributor for Klüber Lubrication Products; and also offers Reiners + Fürst rings and travelers.

Former Hurley & Harrison associates Bennette Cornwell, Jimmy Cranford, Tim Norton and Wes Wood have joined Frankl & Thomas’ sales team.

Frankl & Thomas has roots dating back to 1946 with the founding of the Ernest L. Frankl Co., the first US firm to import European textile machinery after World War II; and 1971 with the founding of Thomas Textile Machinery, distributor for Japan-based spinneret maker Nippon Nozzle. Those companies merged in 1986.

For more than three decades F&T and Sue’ Seiki of Japan worked jointly to develop and market the well-known Sue-matic Separator Roll. Following the retirement of Mr. S. Sue’ and the closure of Sue’ Seiki, Frankl & Thomas was given all of the drawings and technical information on separator rolls from Sue’ Seiki and given permission to manufacture and market the rolls under the F&T name.

The process of spunlacing or hydroentangling is perhaps the fastest growing technology in the nonwovens field. The principle is unique unto itself as ultra fine, high velocity jets or “needles” of water are volleyed against a fiber web or other similar substrate. The kinetic energy transferred from the water causes the fibers to entangle, wrap, and knot about each other in the web. The resulting product is one with many conventional textile properties such as softness of hand, drapability, durability, and the ability to be patterned.

Greenville, SC based textile parts and machinery distributor Frankl & Thomas Inc. recently awarded its annual academic scholarship to Collin Alexander, currently a sophomore at the Citadel, in Charleston, SC. This marks the second time that Collin has received the award. An outstanding student, Collin will be the highest ranking sophomore in the school this fall, and will be the company clerk. Collin is also a member of the Citadel Lacrosse team.

Frankl & Thomas awards the $2,000 scholarship each year to any employee’s child who is enrolled in an accredited college or university and maintains at least a 3.0 grade point average. Collin is the son of VP Michael Alexander.

Company president Al Thomas said that in spite of difficult times in the textile industry Frankl & Thomas continues to support higher education and its employee’s families by awarding these scholarships. “Higher education scholarship money has been greatly reduced for many deserving, middle class families who want their children to receive the best education possible. After housing costs, education is the second largest expense for many families. We are pleased to be in a position to assist our employees children’s pursuit of higher education.”
